Being Nurtured by the Dark
HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE!
I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying the blessings of the season. For many years I have found it challenging to balance the desire to celebrate the season with all it's festive sparkle and communal togetherness with my soul's desire to go into the still darkness that beckons from deep within the land and be quiet and listen. I know I'm not alone, that there are many of you who can relate to this quandary. I love seeing the decorative lights and listening to Christmas music, but at the same time there is a part of me that thirsts for stillness.
FINDING STILLNESS WITHIN THE SPARKLE
One of my main intentions for doing geomantic work is to help connect people with the nurturing, inspiring qualities of Earth - to help them open to the healing presence and guidance held within the wild landscape. It's in the moments when I open to the beauty around me, get a glimpse into the quiet rapture of the natural world, that I find stillness. This stillness, rich with the essence of all things, nourishes me and I feel connected to the vastness within myself and in the space within which I rest. Here in the northern hemisphere, at this time of the longest night, I sink into the beauty and inspiration that I feel rising up from within the dark.
ARE THERE TIMES WHEN MOMENTS OF STILLNESS COME TO YOU?
This morning I wrote this poem and I share it with you in celebration of the blessings of the dark.
THE DREAMS OF TREES
Solstice
Darkness all encompassing.
Everything is hush.
My thoughts take flight,
Vanishing into the cold.
Edges and familiar boundaries merge with infinity.
I pause here in this moment,
Awaiting the return of the light.
Within the stillness,
I become aware of the trees
Sleeping.
Held in the arms of the Goddess,
My body sinks in
To the welcoming dark.
