CREATIVE WORKS

Creating from the Threshold

To engage with the Presence within a place requires experiencing it with a particularly refined depth of perception: the ability and willingness to look beyond the rational and our mind's view and to choose to see the world in perhaps the ways the world wants to be seen.

It calls for us to embrace the unseen, the unknown, the unacknowledged, the denied, that which is quiet and exists both in the shadows and in the light.

It demands from us a listening ear, an open heart, a quiet receptive posture where we're engaging our inner and outer senses simultaneously.

This project is a response to a pervasive curiosity. It's an attempt at recording the hidden energies and patterns that exist beyond what our everyday senses pick up. The process is bringing me into a deeper, more visceral dialogue with the essence of life pulsing around me.

I wanted to integrate lunar energies into the creative process, and to see how one affected the other. Hidden within the woodland, warped onto a lower branch of a hemlock tree, I created a moon loom, a "place" that not only was where threads and natural materials were woven in together, but also the wind, the moonlight, sunlight, rain and bird song joined the weft. The weaving process was guided by the lunar energies that waxed and waned throughout  the winter and early spring seasons. What resulted was a weaving of a story between the Moon, the Place, and me.

This little book was not planned, but rather came about as a result of a series of choices that unfolded over time. It combines expressive mini watercolour paintings that became the inspiration and ground upon which oracular messages are now held. It's proof that when we let go and follow the little sparks of ideas that come, something emerges that is far more than you could ever think up yourself.

Meadow Marks came to life from out of the fog. The liminal space of the misty meadow and its dew-drenched, late August plants and spiders' webs held a quality of mystery and an air of change that I wanted to capture. The creative process is open and experiential which allows space for the unexpected and mysterious to emerge.

A collection of poetry, prose, travel writing, and assorted thoughts and ideas put down in words of my lived experiences and contemplations. These writings are both raw and unpolished as well as reflective and refined.

Often times it's the quiet little moments that hold the most life. These short films seek to revere, respect, and endear us to these moments.
